My Asia Supermarket Belfast Top (Vegan & Veggie) Picks!
Anyone who knows me, knows I’m a BIG fan of the legendary Asia Supermarket - especially the new one (the other one was on Agincourt Ave for 25+ years so 7/8 months is still pretty new…), and here i’ve put together a little shopping list of my top (Vegan & Veggie) picks!
I’ve been going to this place as long as I remember - my dad Big Brian was also a big fan - but if you’re not sure where i’m on about, here’s a handy map to it’s new spot on the Ormeau Embankment - near the Ravenhill Road junction.
1 - Chana Masala & Chana Dal Masala
These are the perfect spice mix for chickpea and lentil based curries, and a firm favourite in my cupboard.
2 - Tinned Jackfruit!
You’ve probably seen this on menus on everything from pizza, to burgers, to salads, to wraps. It’s often a substitute for pulled pork, so you can give it a go for Meatless Monday.
Check out Bosh TV for some awesome easy ideas!
3 - Tinned Chickpeas & Black Beans
Another cupboard staple, either of these are a great base for curries, chillis, or why not dive into the archives and try out some of my fave burger recipes!
4 - King Soba Noodles
I love a good noodle, and there are countless variations on offer, but these bad boys are my fave. Perfect addition to stirfrys, soups, broths… try them out!
5 - Al Nakhil Tahini
Basically just mushed up sesame seeds, but until you’ve had some tahini as a spread on your sandwiches and burgers, or as a dip for your falafels, you’ve missed out. There are many out there, but for me, this one tops the bunch.
6 - Coconut Butter Scotch Sauce
I’ll admit, i’d no idea what this was. But I took a risk on this coulda been gross little jar, and it paid off in spades. My daily porridges or overnight oats have never looked back.
7 - Light Soy Sauce
Probably doesn’t need too much explaining, but just in case - soy sauce will make an already good stir fry, or tofu scramble, absolutely brilliant. Get some.
8 - Falafel Mix
Time to dive into the archives again… falafel mix is perfect as a base for burgers, and falafels are perfect in wraps, salads, sandwiches… they’re great on their own! Invent your own use!
That’s it for the picks, have a visit and let me know some of your faves - AND try out the cafe while you’re there - enjoy!
These little balls of love are stacked full of protein & even a novice with the right ingredients could roll them together in under 5 minutes.
