Fitness Belfast, WCW, WWE, and DDP Yoga
As a huge wrestling fan, three-time WCW World Champion Professional Wrestler, WWE Hall of Fame-r, and more recently turned yogi, Diamond Dallas Page was my way in to a yoga practice & important lesson in yoga misconceptions.
Diamond Dallas Page originally developed DDP Yoga for athletes like himself who had suffered years of injuries due to high-impact sports. For the first 42 years of his life, Dallas was a guy who "wouldn't be caught dead" doing yoga, or anything like it.
I probably had some of the same misconceptions, but my own experiences of a niggley shoulder, clients coming to me with various hindrances or injuries, and maybe most importantly my love of WWE, one day around 6 years ago, I started to try DDP Yoga at home.
I felt better almost immediately, more flexible, more grounded, and after about a year, encouraged by my wife, I attended my very first ‘proper’ yoga class at Flow Yoga’s Hill Street Studio.
The rest is kind of history. I loved it, and began to introduce a yoga inspired program to my clients, through warm ups, cool downs, stretches and practice. I wanted to evolve my learning and teaching more, and so in Spring 2016, I applied for their first Flow Academy - a supportive, inspiring and empowering Yoga Teacher Training programme.
And since that, I’ve developed BroFlo – Yoga for Guys – For all those guys who say “Yoga? No thanks, not for me”, an 8 week programme of Vinyasa styled yoga, designed specifically for guys who are curious about developing a regular yoga practice, but who might be cynical, unsure or overwhelmed with where to start.
Sound like you – why not join us? As DDP himself says “It may just show you why I don't mind skeptics...” :)
